Meet Ruby
“Born and raised in the Parish of Saint James, Jamaica, Rowena, affectionately called Ruby, began her culinary journey at a young age. She migrated to the US in the late ‘80s and continued to share her love of cooking with close friends. Inspired by the reaction of others and her love for cooking, she soon started catering for small special occasions, with a lifelong dream of one day opening her very own restaurant.
With nothing but $200 gifted from her youngest daughter, she began pursuing her dream. Cooking from her humble kitchen, Ruby brought food samples for and distributed flyers to her neighboring community. Her children supported her, as well, by taking meals to their workplaces to introduce their colleagues to the distinct and exciting flavors of Jamaican dishes. Within a year, her clientele grew so much that she needed assistance from family members (special thanks to Freddy) and friends to meet the high demand. By the time the second year came around, even her grandchildren started helping with the catering service!
Ruby’s imaginative and creative knack of combining spices, along with her God-given culinary talent, truly sets her apart in a class of her own. Her love for God, family, and friends continues to make the cooking time of fellowship and a way of blessing and helping others. With her deeply rooted faith and confidence in God, nothing holds her back from fulfilling her dream… now realized.
